Team MAS were crowned overall champions of the 71st Mercantile Open Table Tennis Championship 2025 held at the S. Thomas’ College, Mt. Lavinia Indoor Sports Complex on the 19th of July.
The victorious team was spearheaded by the MAS Table Tennis Captain Chathura Weerakoon who was instrumental in guiding the unit from the forefront. Some unforgettable and key highlights in the MAS performances were three championships, five 2nd runner-ups and a runner-up title which sealed the deal.

In a true display of team spirit and sheer individual brilliance, team MAS outclassed their opponents in all aspects to clinch the overall title with 12 talented Table Tennis players doing their part in the hunt for the championship. This historic tournament which has been continuously held for the past 7-decades saw 31 corporate teams vying for glory at this year’s edition.
Upeka Kotinkaduwa (champion – masters women’s), Chathura Weerakoon (champion – novices men’s), Hansani Kapugeekiyana and Dewmini Weerasena (champions – open doubles women) stole the show at Mt. Lavinia with their sublime performance along with the rest of the MAS team put up a stellar show to show what real champions are made of.
