Maliyadeva hang on to draw game against Ananda

Ananda College pushed hard but was denied a win against Maliyadeva College Kurunegala in an inter school cricket match played at Ananda Mawatha today.

 

Ananda College winning the toss elected to bat first and posted a formidable 322 runs in 92 over’s.  In-form opening batsman Chamalaka Athulathmudali was the star for the Anandians scoring 98 runs in 216 balls. His patient knock consisted of 9 boundaries and he was well supported by Pasindu Isira who scored a fluent 75 runs. 

The Maliyadeva bowlers failed to make a huge impact on the Ananda batsmen as they batted with a lot of authority playing on home conditions. 

The visitors going in to bat in their first innings could only manage to score 93 runs in 30 over’s. None of the batsmen looked comfortable facing the Ananda bowling with the highest score being 16 which came off the bat of Keshan Wijeratne. 

The visitors then following on managed to improve in their batting ending with 246 runs all out in 59.3 over’s. Keshan Wijeratne who top scored for them in the first innings carried his form in to the second innings scoring a fifty while Sarinda Dissanayake scored 44 to save the game for Maliyadeva. 

Samvu Ashan and Isuru Gunesekera were the main wicket takers for Ananda College finishing with three wickets each.
