Mahinda’s defensive batting brings about drab draw in Galle

Mahinda College Galle put their foot on the brakes on day two to ensure a dreary draw against Trinity College Kandy, at the Galle stadium a short while ago.

The host’s batting from their overnight score of 83 runs for the loss of 2 wickets, took 102.5 over’s to add a further 117 runs to end on 200 runs in their first innings. It was an appalling batting display by Mahinda as they went at just 1.8 runs an over which took away the glamour from the entire game. Indira Gallage was their top score as the ended day one on 59 while Nirwantha Thikshala put in a hand with 54 runs.

For the Lions Lakshan Jayasighe and Raveen Sayer grabbed 3 wickets each while deputy skipper Rajitha Jayatunga ended with a couple.

Trinity in their 2nd innings, trying to make a game out of it, scored 132 runs for 7 wickets in just 37 over’s which gave an idea about the nature of the pitch. Bagya Palihawada, Lakshitha Dassanayake and Ron Chandragupta all chipped in with valuable contribution scoring 28, 29 and 27 respectively.
