U 19 Inter-international Schools Cricket

The quarter-finals of the U 19 Inter-international Schools Cricket tournament was played between these teams which came through the group stage and made it here.  The competition gets heightened from this point onwards as the more competent teams battle it against each other.

Quarter Final 1- Lyceum International School Wattala vs. Gateway College Kandy

Gateway won the toss and chose to field first. It did not seem like a good decision made by them because they didn’t manage to build pressure on the opponents and hunt for early wickets. Lyceum Wattala put on a strong opening combination as the top order batted well and they ended up with a strong total of 223/9 at the end of 30 overs. The Gateway boys didn’t look too impressive in the chase as theylost wickets regularly and were all out for 88 in just 24 overs.

Result: Lyceum Wattala won by 135 runs.

Quarter Final 2- Lyceum International School Panadura vs. Leeds International School Panadura

The Leeds camp won the toss and chose to field first but it did not go to plan. The Lyceum batsman displayed good shot selection and running between wickets. In the end of 30 overs the Lyceumites from Panadura managed to get 161 losing all their wickets. Leeds didn’t put up a good show in their essay and lost  early wickets. They were bowled out in 21.2 overs for 91 runs.

Result: Lyceum Panadura won by 70 runs.

Quarter Final 3- Asian International School Colombo vs. Gateway College Colombo

The Asian boys won the toss and chose to start off the innings with the bat; they played some steady cricket with good selection of shots and ended up for 159/7 in the end of 30 overs. Not a very big target for the Gateway team to surpass in 30 overs, but they struggled with the early loss of wickets and ended up being bowled out for 131 in 28.4 overs.

Result: Asian won by 28 runs.

Quarter Final 4- Lyceum International School Nugegoda vs. British School, Colombo

The boys from Lyceum Nugegoda won the toss and chose to bat first. It looked like a good decision. They had a strong top order which played some classy shots and scored back to back boundaries. However the Lyceumites were all out for 167 in 29.5 overs. British started struggling with bat in  their innings, as Lyceum bowled well and created pressure to get early wickets. British were bowled out for 53 in 21.4 overs.

Result: Lyceum Nugegoda won by 114 runs.
