Luxton & Prest pilot England to win in final ODI; Sri Lanka seal the series 3-2

England U19 registered a 48-run win in the fifth and final Youth ODI against Sri Lanka U19 today at SSC Grounds, Colombo. But Sri Lanka U19 managed to win the 5-match series, 3-2.  

After being put in to bat first, the visiting England U19 got off to a terrible start losing their first 6 wickets for just 95 runs. Sri Lankan bowlers led by seamer Vinuja Ranpul were brilliant upfront causing problems for England top order.

However, England opening batter William Luxton and wicket-keeper batter Alex Horton showed great resistance putting on a match-winning partnership of 93 runs for the 7th wicket. Luxton top-scored for England adding 84 runs off 119 balls with 4 fours and a six.

Horton chipped in with a valuable contribution with the bat scoring 36 runs off 62 balls as England set the hosts a target of 215 runs. Ranpul was the pick of the bowlers for Sri Lanka as he claimed 4 wickets for 45 runs.

Chasing 215 runs to win, Sri Lanka also had a poor start with the bat as they lost half of their side for 74 runs in 17.2 overs. The number 4 batter Sadisha Rajapaksa and Raveen De Silva gave a good fightback adding 42 runs for the sixth wicket but it wasn’t enough for the hosts as visitors registered a comprehensive 48-run win at the end.

Rajapaksa top-scored for Sri Lanka with a knock of 66 runs off 77 balls with 7 fours. England off-spinner Tom Prest was exceptional with the ball as he snared 6 wickets for 41 runs.
