Lumbini College recorded a first innings win over Wesley College by 92 runs even though Wesley College held on by the scruff of their teeth in the second innings to draw the game in the season opener of the under 19 Division 1 Schools cricket tournament.

The host Wesley, Resuming from day one at 125 for 5 added a mere 31 runs as they were bowled out for just 156 in 55.4 overs. Kanishka Maduwantha, ended day 1 with 5 scalps bagged 3 further wickets as he ran through the bottom order of Wesley to end the first innings with personal figures of 8 for 84.

Movin Subhasinghe, like all other batsman added just 7 runs to his overnight score of 38 as he too was dismissed for 45 as Wesley slumped to a first innings loss at home.

Batting in their second innings Lumbini declared at 126 for 9 as they set a target of 218 for Wesley to get and left the game evenly poised.

Kavinda Dissanayake (4/27) ended the game with a total of 8 wickets as he picked yet another four wicket haul in the second innings along with Helitha Bambaranda’s 4 for 49 for the hosts.

Wesley College came out fighting as they scored 144 even though wickets at regular intervals hampered their chase and ended the day with a nail-biting draw.

Kanishka Maduwantha ended the game with a 10 wicket haul as he managed 2 for 58 in the second innings as Lumbini College ended the game on a high and would be looking to build on this performance in the next games to come.
