Liverpool thrashed Everton 4-0 in their 222nd derby meeting as the Reds ran riot at Anfield.
Captain Steven Gerrard headed the hosts in front on 21 minutes after which Daniel Sturridge scored a brace in 2 minutes to make it three without reply. His second was a sublime finish from a long ball.
Luis Suarez completed the rout on 50 minutes and Sturridge missed the chance to grab his hat trick when he sent the spot kick over the bar after Tim Howard had brought down Raheem Sterling.
