Regrettably postponed from last year, the Closing Regatta for the year 2018/2019 was held at the Colombo Rowing Club on Saturday the 6th of July, 2019. The Chief Guest at the regatta was Mr. Senaka de Saram.

The Ladies College crew did very well, winning 4 different events and the crew of Royal College also acquitted themselves well in the Men’s category.

Having won the Women’s Under-16 Double Scull and 4+ races, Ladies College went on to win the Cyraine Cup and the Ladies’ Plate as well.

While the Men’s Under-16 Double Scull was won by Ananda College, and the Under-16 4+ by St Joseph’s College, neither crew was to have another win at the regatta. The Herman Sirimanne Trophy, the V.A. Julius Mayuragamage Trophy and the Colvin Sirimanne Trophy were all won by Royal College, with the boat in the race for the Colvin Sirimanne Trophy almost breaking the record with a timing of 5 minutes 56 seconds.

The President’s Trophy was won by the Colombo Rowing Club.

The Harry Creasey, a mixed 4+ event, was won by a 4+ made up of Charin

Wijetilake, Sajad Ajmal, Malik Hassan, Sumith Alagatha and Charino Hewamana.

As the Closing Regatta marks the end of both the rowing season and the tenure of the previous Captain of the CRC, the outgoing captain, Ruven Weerasinghe, gave a speech thanking all the people involved in running the Rowing Club and further proposed a “Rowing League” which would ideally result in creating a competitive atmosphere for Sri Lankan rowing to flourish in.
