Kyudo (Samurai bowmen ship) Demonstration by master archers from Japan

Keerthi Wickramaratne sensei & members of kyudolanka Kyudojo(Japanese archery training centre) will conduct an awareness program on Kyudo -Way of the bow(Japanese bowmen ship) in order to popularize this highly disciplined activity in Sri Lanka.

Kyudo is known as purest of martial arts used by the samurai warriors of Japan and has evolved into a prestigious activity practiced by millions of enthusiasts in Japan & world over. It is also known as standing meditation due to its highly precise & graceful shooting style using an asymmetrical long bow.

The ultimate goal of a true kyudoka (The Japanese archery disciple) is to achieve the state of “Mushin “(no mind) and to conquer one’s self than the actual target itself.

Many believe that the samurai culture has influenced the modern day development of Japanese economy, culture and way of life.

The participants will get a first hand opportunity to experience the feel of bows used by the samurai warriors more than 1000 years ago. The highlight of the event will be the presence of Ono Tadashi sensei & Miwako Arai sensei from Yu Ai Kyudojo, Saitama, Japan.

The seminar will be held at Sri Lanka Japan Cultural centre, (Sasakawa Trust) auditorium at no 04, 22 nd lane, Colombo 03 at 10.00 am on March 3rd Sunday 2013 and entrance is free of charge.

This event is organized by the Budo Culture Research and Training institute, the pioneering institute for samurai culture and martial arts in Sri Lanka.
