Perera was tested positive for COVID-19 on the 15th of August and was in isolation for 10 days. However, as per the current health guidelines for COVID patients in Sri Lanka which require a further 4 days of quarantine at home, Perera is yet to join the team-bubble in Colombo.

He missed the recently-concluded home series against India and the Dialog-SLC Invitational T20 League due to a shoulder injury which he picked up in England. The team management is hoping that he will have ample training time and will be available for selection for the three-match T20I series against South Africa.
