The 2018 Singer School’s Rugby League is just a few days away. Get to know your school’s captain and your rival’s captains as well!

1. Royal College Colombo

Sabith Feroze will lead the defending Champions of the League for the upcoming season. The prolific winger is a fourth year coloursman and one of the most experienced campaigners in the 2018 Royal outfit.  He has been a match winner for Royal on many occasions throughout the past years with his dashing runs and exceptional defensive skills.

2. Isipathana College

At the age of 17, Manilka Sulakshana Ruberu will take up duties as Isipathana’s youngest ever Rugby Captain. Playing at the Centre position, Ruberu had a decent last season, putting together a string of solid performances. He is the most experienced player in a young Pathana outfit.

3. Trinity College Kandy

Awishka Shiek, the 4th year coloursman has been carrying a long-term knee injury, however despite being out of play for most of the last season, he has been given the leadership responsibility and will be looking to stamp his authority on the field of play with the added responsibility on his shoulders. He was also one of the junior players who toured with the Junior Tuskers during the past year.

4. Wesley College

Daiyan Sabar will be given the privilege of playing his fourth and final year as Captain of his Alma Mater. Young Sabar, was a member of the U-18 National Sevens squad that toured the Bahamas for the Junior Commonwealth Championship and also represented the Junior Tuskers at the U19 Asia Championship last December.

5. St. Peter’s College

Javed Zarook, will have the privilege of leading the 2018 St. Peter’s College Rugby team in his fourth and final year for the upcoming schools’ season. The outstanding flanker/Number eight is a third year coloursman, who unfortunately couldn’t finish the 2017 season due to an injury.

6. St. Joseph’s College

Sameesha Virangana will lead the Josephian Rugby team for the upcoming season. Virangana was one of the key architects in Joes gameplay last year, but moving from Centre to the pivotal Flyhalf position, he will have to play an even bigger role this year.

7. S. Thomas’ College

Christian De Lile, the outstanding flanker/Number eight, is a third year coloursman who has been handed the responsibility of leading the S. Thomas’ College Rugby team in his fourth and final year. He represented the Junior Tuskers at the U18 Sevens Tournament in Chinese Taipei and Hong Kong in 2016 and at the Junior Commonwealth games in Bahamas which was held last year.

8. Zahira College Colombo

Muammar Deen will lead the 2018 Zahira College Rugby team in his fourth and final year. At 86 kilos and 5’9 tall, Deen played as the tight head prop last year but this year around he will look to keep the forwards steady and lead the pack upfront playing at the number eight position.

9. St. Anthony’s College Kandy

Kavinda Amarakoon will lead the Eagles in his 4th and final year. Standing at 5 feet 11 inches tall, weighing at 100KG, Amarakoon will play at his favoured position as Prop Forward and will hope to continue to display his barging runs and try scoring abilities this year as well.

10. Kingswood College Kandy

Tharindu Waligampola, a 4th year coloursman, who led the Kingswood U-18 team towards a Championship title in 2016 will lead the Kingswood first XV team in his final year. His presence at the Centre position has always been a key factor for Kingswood in the past seasons. Utilizing his defensive and attacking skills, Waligampola will look to be an impact player this year as well.

11. Dharmaraja College Kandy

Bawantha Udangamuwa, a 6th year player who is also the most experienced player in the team, will lead the Rajans this season. He played at the vital Centre position last year, showcasing his defensive skills and will look to continue his dashing runs and solid defense this year as well.

12. D.S. Senanayake College

Chamuka Seshan will lead the Dons this season in his final year. The Second-row forward stands at 5 feet 11 inches tall and holds the experience of the past three seasons. Leading the fairly inexperineced team, Seshan will have to bring his ‘A’ game at every match this year.
