Kandy Sports Club host CR & FC in the final game of the first round of the Nippon Paint Rugby League 2023/24.

Table toppers Kandy and CR, separated by just a single point, will meet in what promises to be an exciting encounter in the Hill Country!

Kandy will have the upper hand, playing at Home, and CR knows they will have to turn up in all force if they are to silence the crowd and inflict defeat on the hosts.

Havelocks vs Navy on the 19th January at Havelock Park from 3.45 pm

Havelock Sports Club will aim to finish the first round on a high as they take on Navy Sports Club, languishing at the foot of the table.

The Home team have had a season of ups and downs, failing short against the 3-teams above them. Havelocks will no doubt want to put the record straight before the first round ends.

Navy have had a torrid campaign, failing to secure a single game as their squad has been unable to live up to expectations.

Havelocks are overwhelming favourites unless a miracle goes the way of the Navy.

Police v Air Force on the 20th of January at Police Park from 3.45 pm

Police Sports Club will be disappointed with their campaign so far, but they have one last opportunity to put things right in the final game of the first round. Police promised much; however, they failed the litmus test on the field as they failed to fire on all cylinders.

Air Force has had a brutal campaign but will be hoping to kick start from their victory against the Army.

Police Sports Club are in the driver’s seat. However, if the Air Force are to trouble the Cops, they must bring their ‘A’ game.

Army v CH & FC on the 20th of January at Panagoda from 3.45 pm

Army will have a task at hand if they are to dismantle a CH outfit, looking fluent and good!

Army faced a shock defeat last weekend at the hands of the Air Force, as the Air Man trounced the Soldiers in surprising fashion.

CH & FC are finally getting into their groove, having recorded a few victories on the bounce. The lads from Maitland Place have only faced defeat against the two teams above them and are in prime position to make it 5 wins this season.

This will undoubtedly be a balanced game, and if the Army can focus their energy accurately, they could spring a surprise.

Kandy v CR & FC on the 21st of January at Nittawela from 3.30 pm

Undoubtedly the fixture of the week!

The two unbeaten sides fittingly go head to head in the final week of the first round, as both sides will know that they will have to bring about their A-game to get over the line.

Kandy have looked shaky but have managed to get over the line repeatedly, thanks to players putting their hands up in a timely fashion. Will this suffice to go into the all-important fixture this weekend?

CR has looked phenomenal throughout, especially against the teams in the bottom 4. CH and Havelocks troubled CR, but they somehow managed to get over the line and are now at the money end of the tournament.

Slip-ups could be costly, and neither team would want to put a foot wrong!

Tarinda, Thenuka, Jeson Dissanayake and Lasindu Karunathilake will be under the spotlight as the action moves to Kandy, and both teams will no doubt aim to bring their A-game!
