K H Sirisoma clinches National Billiards title for the 21st time

Veteran champion K.H. Sirisoma of Sri Lanka Port Authority clinched the Singer trophy for the National Billiard championship defeating his counterpart S.H.M. Aslam of Moors Sports club this evening.

 

The 60th National Billiard championships which commenced on 17th of January concluded today at the Sugathadasa Stadium. This is organized by the Billiards and Snooker Association Sri Lanka (B&SASL) with the sponsorship given by Singer Sri Lanka PLC giving a great boost to the sport and players. 

The star performer Sirisoma, who held top spot in the championships history becoming the national  Billiard champion 20 times during its 60 year history,  totaled 6  frames to beat Aslam who scored  3 frames and emerge the runner up of the championship. 

The district level tournaments which took place in November 2012 was the start of the championship, where 68, 15, 11, cueists represented the districts Colombo, Kandy and Galle respectively, from which  26 players participated for the all island level which took place in last December. 

The final stages of the championship took place with the participation of 16 players and only 8 were selected for the pre quarter level. Namely, Abdul Sattar (MSC), S.H.M. Aslam (MSC) A.Jayarathne (YMBA), T. Samarasinghe (OAC), K.H. Sirisoma (SLPA), Faizal Hanifa (MSC), Anil Rohana (AAA), M.M. Mebeen (Army).

The pre quarter level was held with 7 frames and S.H.M. Aslam, A.Jayarathne, K.H.Sirisoma, Anil Rohana, qualified for there quarter level.  

The most anticipated battle took place on 20th Sunday at 4.30pm with K.H. Sirisoma and A.H.M.Aslam going head to head in the culmination of the championship. Aslam was defeated by Sirisoma claiming the championship for the 21s times.

The awards for the winners were distributed by the chief guests Mr. L.N.K.S. Samarasinghe, Director sales Singer PLC, Sajjad Mawzoon past president B&SASL, Colonel H.g.I vidyananda Secretary B&SASL and many more.
