Second edition of the Colombo Supercross will be worked off this weekend (16th July) at the Commando Supercross race track at the commando training camp in Uva Kudaoya.
The inaugural edition of the commando supercross was conducted last year and was an immediate success with both the competitors and spectators embracing the unique experience and the international standard race track it offered.
This year the supercross will make history as the first race track in the country equipped with the joker lap that will be named commando lap. Joker lap is a de tour from the main track which will either shorten or slow the automobiles down for a minimum of a second or two making the drivers make a strategic decision about when to take it. While this looks out of place mastering the mechanics will be crucial to winning races.
Considered one of the fastest tracks in the country Commando Supercross car track is measured at 1.68km while the motorbike track will be 1.9km. A total of 12 racing car events and 10 motorbike events are set to test the skills and the composure of the finest riders and drivers of the country who will make their way to the historic grounds of Uva Kudaoya.
In the inaugural edition Evon Gurusinghe was named the best rider while Ushan Perera was named the best driver. It will be a crucial race for both competitors as both of them have not been able to achieve their usual rhythm in the racing circuit and are yet to win an overall championship this year. Evon has suffered mishaps during the races while Ushan’s trouble with his automobile has been costing him dearly so far this year.
This race will also act as the 4th installment of the Sri Lanka super Series that consists of 06 races. The champion driver of the series will receive a brand new KIA Picanto , sponsored by Vision Care (Pvt) Ltd and co-sponsored by KIA Motors Lanka Limited. Champion rider will receive a brand new Honda hornet motor cycle sponsored by Stafford Motors (Pvt) Ltd.
