JKH A went on to win the Cup segment defeating CDB in the Cup final as Pearl Beach, Moresand, and Brandix went on to be crowned Plate, Shield and Bowl Champions respectively at the 52nd Mercantile 7’s Tournament played at CR & FC.

Day two kicked off with the Shield Quarter Finals.

MAS A, Ceylinco, Moresand, and HNB Bank secured their places in the semi-finals, as the Cup Segment soon followed.

Shield Quarter Finals:

  • MAS A 41 – 07 Nations Trust Bank
  • Ceylinco 17 – 14 Mercantile Investments
  • Moresand 29 – 05 Foresight
  • HNB Bank 36 – 07 Commercial Credit

The Cup semi-finals were a straightforward affair for JKH A, who convincingly defeated Sampath Bank.

Meanwhile, Pearl Beach, the favorites, were shocked by CDB, as the young side triumphed over the star-studded outfit.

Cup Semi-finals:

  • John Keells Holdings A 29 – 00 Sampath Bank
  • Pearl Beach 17 – 21 Citizens Development Bank

Before the lunch break, the Ladies added color to the event with a tag rugby match between CDB and Sampath Bank. CDB surprised Sampath Bank, scoring a single try to secure the win.

Tag Rugby:

  • Citizens Development Bank 01 – 00 Sampath Bank

After the break, Moresand and Ceylinco booked their places in the Shield Final, defeating MAS A and HNB Bank respectively.

Shield Semi-finals:

  • MAS A 17 – 19 Moresand
  • Ceylinco 17 – 05 Hatton National Bank

Bowl Final:

Brandix won their first game and, with it, the Bowl Segment of the 52nd Mercantile 7’s Competition. Brandix outclassed JKH B, whose second team went through the competition without a win.

Shield Final:

Moresand were convincing winners in the Shield Final, defeating Ceylinco. The game was put to rest in the second half with Moresand’s third try, as Ceylinco struggled to keep up.

  • Moresand 21 – 05 Ceylinco

Plate Final:

Mithun Hapugoda’s Pearl Beach side redeemed themselves after their shock semi-final defeat, dominating Sampath Bank to win the Plate Segment. Pearl Beach controlled the game from the start, giving Sampath Bank no chance to pose a threat.

  • Pearl Beach 39 – 12 Sampath Bank

Cup Final:

JKH A dominated the first half, scoring twice through Kavindu Perera and Heshan Jansen, as the Kandy duo led their side to overshadow their rivals. Janidu Dilshan continued the momentum in the second half, with JKH proving unstoppable. Srinathsooriya Bandara scored as JKH wrapped things up without conceding, securing the Cup Segment.
