Sri Lankan ace rider Jacques Gunawardena made history by earning an opportunity to feature in the prestigious ‘CEAT Indian Supercross Racing League (ISRL) 2025’. This selection reflects the pure talent and unwavering commitment of the champion rider, while paying the dividend for the relevant authorities who have invested to build a high-quality motor racing culture in Sri Lanka. Further, this milestone will be considered a testament to the quality and the standard of the local Racing stars.

The ISRL can be introduced as a world-renowned motorsport event, and incidentally, it is the world’s first franchise-based Supercross League, which is organised by Team SXI in collaboration with the Federation of Motor Sports Clubs of India (FMSCI). Further, IRSL has got the recognition from the International Motorcycling Federation (FIM), which is the global body to control the sport. With the popular Bollywood actor Salman Khan is being named as the brand ambassador for the IRSL Season 2, this has become an eye-catching event for global sports enthusiasts.

Our protagonist, Jacques Gunawardena, is one of Sri Lanka’s standout motocross riders, known for dominating both national and regional circuits with consistent excellence and impressive results. This year, he clinched the Best Rider award at each and every competition that he participated in, namely the Mahameruwa Rallycross 1.0, Mahameruwa Rallycross 2.0, Walawa Supercross and Gajaba Supercross. Apart from the local excellence, Jacques has had triumphs in regional foreign circuits, including in India and in Thailand.

The champion rider, Jacques, had started his career by following his father Duane Gunawardene’s footsteps since he was just three years old. Since then, victory has been a definite part of his career. He is a proud product of Lyceum International School, Nugegoda, and at present he competes for Group MX Racing Motorbikes in the 100cc up to 125 cc 2T & 175cc up to 250cc (4T) categories, where the highest capacity motorbikes are being used.

In the recent years, there hasn’t been any rider to challenge his fear-free riding style, and he has already built a legacy with him by queuing himself after the great legends like Ananda Wedisinghe and Gayan Sandaruwan.

As the finest talents of the world are featuring in this prestigious event, Jacques will have an opportunity to battle shoulder to shoulder by being the pioneer to uplift the Sri Lankan motorcycle sports to the global stage. His remarkable achievement is not only a personal milestone, but also will be a true motivator for the future stars on the island to target and perform at the international level.

As the prestigious event ISRL Season 2 gets underway this October in Pune, Hyderabad, and Kerala, ThePapare.com media team will wish all the very best to Jacques Gunawardhane to shine on an elite level of the sport, and hope that this opportunity will be a gateway to global recognition.
