Isuru Gunasekara 8/50 take upper hand for Ananda

Left arm spinet Isuru Gunasekara took eight for 50 for Ananda to restrict St. Benedict’s College for 173 runs in their U-19 inter-school cricket match commenced at Kotahena yesterday.

However at stumps on day one Ananda in response were 37 for the loss of three wickets. Young Gunasekera was at his brilliant best as he bowled threatening spells to continuously trouble batsmen with beautiful leg-spin bowling. He ran through the innings mercilessly as he claimed all but two wickets including that of top scorer Janindu Karunathilake for 42 runs. Victorio Roberto was 37.  Sandakan Pathirana and Sahan Arachchige picked up the two remaining wickets.

In response Ananda was in trouble losing three wickets cheaply with all three top order batsmen back in the pavilion.
