Isipathana Coaching Staff Announced

Isipathana College Rugby Management and Development Committee has unveiled the coaching staff that will take charge of the Green Machine for the upcoming season.

The new coaching team was introduced to the Principial of Isipathana College, Mr. Oshara Panditharathne by the Isipathana College Rugby Management and Development Committee headed by Chairman Mr. Duminda Senevirathne.

Former national 7s & Kandy SC skipper Saliya Kumara has been entrusted with marshaling the Green Machine 1st XV. Saliya, a product of Vidyartha College Kandy, played his final years of Schools rugby at Trinity College. He has brief stints at Havelocks Sports Club, CH&FC before moving to the Hill Capital side Kandy SC in 2007. Saliya was a permanent feature in the Champion Kandy SC outfit before deciding to hang up his boots.

Saliya Kumara is a World Rugby Level 2 accredited coach who has enjoyed stints with Kandy Sports Club as the backs coach from 2016 to 2018 and was in charge of the Trinity 1st XV backs from 2018 to 2019. Saliya is currently the Head Coach of the national Women’s 7s outfit.

Saliya will be assisted by former Isipathanian, Dhanushka Botheju as the assistant coach who will also be in charge of the forwards. Dhanushka represented CR&FC and also donned the national colors during his playing days.

Hashan Gomes has been handed the responsibility of strength and conditioning of the side and will be the trainer of Isipathana 1st XV. Gomes is the current strength and conditioning coach of Police SC a team that he represented from 2009 to 2018 and skippered the side in 2014/15 season.
