With the fifteens coming to a conclusion after the anticipated Milo Knockouts Trophy, the schools rugby season will progress to the shorter format of the game with the Singer Inter School Sevens set to kick off on the 7th of July 2018 at the Royal Complex.

It will be a tough contest when the sevens action unfolds with a total of over 30 teams in the top division set to participate in the two-day tournament this weekend.

Last year, the S. Thomas’ team under the captaincy of Naveen Henakankanamage went on to retain the sevens crown they won in 2016 defeating Isipathana College in the all important final.

This year around, it will be different to what it was in the past two years as league title holders Royal College are set to play their full strength team. Along with Royal, the newly crowned Milo President’s trophy winners St. Peter’s will be a strong contender with league-knockout runners St. Joseph’s also in the race.

Other teams to watch out for in this tournament will the high-flying Science and Maliyadeva who have recently got their promotion ticket to the A Division.

Trinity and Wesley withdraw

The two cup championship sides, Trinity College and Wesley College will not participate in this week’s tournament. It is learnt that the two sides have few of their key players out due to injury and will not participate.
