An inter company netball championship, organized by srilankasports.com, is scheduled to be held on the 17th of October 2015 at the St Joseph’s College Indoor Stadium in Colombo.
The tournament which inaugurated in 2006, was held for 4 consecutive years from then onwards and it is back this year as well with the objective of unearthing Sri Lanka’s top netballing companies.
The tournament will be conducted under 3 categories: Division I, Division II and Mixed Division. The top two divisions will feature 12 teams whereas the mixed division will feature 8 teams.
Last year’s tournament saw Netballing power house HNB emerge as Champions in the Division I competition, while LB Finance clinched the Division II title. Nation Trust Bank walked away with the Mixed title. Third and fourth places of Division I were won by HSBC and Ceylon Biscuits respectively. Brandix and Amaya Lake won the third and fourth places of Division II.
Srilankasports.com has been able to bring many inventive features into the tournaments including a power play concept as well as conducting the event in a similar format to that we see in Rugby 7’s in its early years (Cup/Plate/Bowl/Shield Championships and 7-1-7 minute match duration).
The tournament which was the 1st of it’s kind to be carried out in an indoor facility in 2006 has been followed by many other innovative ventures in the Futsal, Beach Football and Handball arenas – all organized by Srilankasports.com.
