The veteran marathoner and flag bearer of the Sri Lankan Olympic team, Indrajith Cooray, was placed 34th in the Men’s Marathon event which was concluded yesterday (21st August).

Cooray recorded a time of 02 hours 17 minutes and 06 seconds bettering his timing of 2 hours 19 minutes and 24 seconds that he achieved during the London games 4 years ago.

It was a gallant effort by the gutty Sri Lankan in his 2nd Olympic Games as he was placed 34th in an event which saw 140 out of 146 athletes completing the race. Pre-race favorite Eluid Kipchoge of Kenya lived up to expectations to finish in pole position and took the Gold with a timing of 2:08:44.
