Hyline clinch Kandy League Knockout Championship

Jeewan Thilakarathne’s goal gave Hyline Sports Club the victory over defending Champions Kandy York SC and crown themselves as Kandy League Knockout Division A Champions.

It was a special day for Kandy, as all the football fans gathered to the Bogambara Stadium for the biggest football event in hill country.

From the beginning of the game both teams showed classic football skills while both goalkeepers had to be at their best to prevent any goals.

Kandy York forwards, former Sri Lanka schools player Ranganath De Silva and captain Suresh Senadhi tried desperately score but the visitors’ goalkeeper did not allow any chances to go in and it ended goalless at halftime.

From the beginning of second half Hyline players entered the game in an attacking style.

Hyline scoring machine Jeewan Thilakarathne tried to score several times but York goalkeeper Tharanga Jayarathna managed to pull off brilliant stops.

Finally Jeewan got his time in 57th minute from a free kick. He placed the free kick into the corner of the hosts post and scored the only goal in the final.

From that point onwards Kandy York forwards and midfielders tried to level the game but finishing were unsuccessful.

In the last minute Kandy York skipper had a rare chance to level the game with empty goal but Hyline’s promising defender played goal keepers role from his foot and saved the goal.

The tournament is organized by the Kandy Football League. 27 teams from Kandy area took part in this tournament.

Katugasthota Youth SC beat Gampola Manchester SC on penalties and won the division II championship.
