The 49th National Age Group Aquatic Championships has rebranded itself as “HNB National Age Group Championships 2025 powered by Anchor Newdale” with the recent strategic initiatives by the organizer, Sri Lanka Aquatic Sports Union, and has brought a new energetic and enthusiastic atmosphere for the Sri Lanka Aquatic sports lovers.

At the conclusion of the first day of the 5-day-long competition, Sugathadasa water was home to 4 new national age group records, taking the spotlight of the day.

Rushalee Dissanayake of Musaeus College started the records streak for the day with her impressive 4:48.61 sec time in the Girls Under 15 400m Freestyle event, renewing the previous record held by Ramudi Samarakoon in 2016 by 7.6 seconds.

Nawanjana Siriwarana from Lyceum Wattala renewed the record with a quick time of 36.09 sec in Girls Under 20 50m Breaststroke, surpassing the record held by Thinaya Jayarathne in 2022.

Josephian, Chanul Ratnayake, established a new record in the Boys Under 13 200m Backstroke event with a new time of 2:46.52 sec, raising the bar of the former record of Niriella by 4.38 seconds.

Finally, without failing to renew records of all 4 strokes for the first day, Elisha Samuel of The British School in Colombo broke the record in Girls Under 13 100m Butterfly, clocking a time of 1:13.83 seconds.
