High scoring draw at Ananda Mawatha

Ananda College and St. Peter’s College figured in a high scoring draw in their annual inter school Under 19 cricket tournament match which concluded at Ananda Mawatha yesterday.

In reply to Ananda’s first innings total of 298 runs the Peterites went on to make a strong reply while rattling up a huge 444 runs for 8 wickets after occupying the crease during the entire second day.

This total was made possible largely due to two brilliant centuries from stylish opening batsman Kavinda Tissera and middle order batsman Thimoth Dineth who gave a fine display of stroke making on a batting friendly surface.

The Peterites also took sweet revenge from their opponents as the Anandians also occupied the crease almost the entire first day while compiling their first innings total of 298 runs.

But that formidable total was quite easily overtaken by St. Peter’s College who were able to produce one of their best ever batting performances in 1st XI cricket in the recent past.

Ananda College of course started the second day with a great amount of confidence as their bowlers went on the offensive from the beginning in an attempt to pressurize the Peterite batsmen.

However all their efforts were dashed when Kavinda Tissera and Thimoth Dineth produced their best ever batting performances for the current season while completing two magnificent centuries.

Kavinda Tissera went on to hit a career best 118 with the help of four sixes and fourteen boundaries while his teammate Thimith Dineth struck a chanceless 109 runs inclusive of half a dozen of sixes and the same number of boundaries.

The Peterites certainly proved that they have plenty of fire power in their batting order with three newcomers Manjula Madushan, Sanjaya Jayamal and Didulana Mendis also joining in the run spree to take their total past the magical four hundred run mark.

In fact Manjula Madushan and Sanjaya Jayamal added further humiliation on the Ananda bowlers as they rose to the occasion while completing two solid half centuries during the latter stages of the innings.

The match certainly turned out to be a nightmare for the bowlers as it produced as many as 742 runs for the loss of only 18 wickets inclusive of three centurions.

Ananda College: 298 (Pasindu Isira 100, Kusal Perera 28, Chemila Obeysekera 5 for 66, Sahan Nanayakkara 5 for 66)
