Former Sri Lanka captain Suranda Bandara has been recalled to the National Football squad ahead of their Bangladesh Tour.

The Sri Lanka side is in its rebuilding stage under the new coach Nikola Kavazovic after a horrendous South Asian Football Federation (SAFF) Championship last year.

In their first tour with the new look and young squad Sri Lanka played two friendlies with Seychelles winning the first one 2-1 and losing the next 3-0.

Coach Nikola is still experimenting the side with changes done in the two matches. The selectors have gone with a young squad with an eye for the longer future, with the average age between 24-25.

However the selectors have called the experienced center-back Suranda Bandara who led the side in last year’s SAFF Championship. Suranda Bandara captained Solid SC from Anuradhapura to an exceptional debut season in the Dialog Champions League last year. Solid made a semi-final appearance in the Dialog Champions League and also made it to the quarter final stage at the Cargills Food City FA Cup.

Suranda will give much needed experience to this young side who are lacking international experience and will boost the youngsters confidence.

The Sri Lanka side will play two friendlies on the 24th and 27th of October in Bangladesh.
