Fazil Marija to Captain Kandy Sports Club for 2015/2016

Sri Lanka national fifteen’s and seven’s skipper and iconic Fly half Fazil Marija is tipped to lead Kandy Sports Club for upcoming club season.

Having starting from the schoolboy rugby league Fazil Marija has become the Sri Lankan sensation in the sport achieving great heights in his illustrious 12 year career and gaining the respect of fans, authorities and peers.

Having been born to a rugby family, Fazil had the rare opportunity as a schoolboy to be a part of the national pool at the tender age of 17, which is an achievement yet to beat. Having represented the national pool in his teen years, Fazil went on captain his alma-mater Kingswood College in the year 2004 to a glorious league title victory.

Fazil’s career in Kandy Sports Club starts in the year 2005 and has been a regular in the side ever since. Playing at his favorite position as Fly half over the years, Fazil has evolved to be the island’s best and one Asia’s best in the position.  Being a consistent contributor in the national squad, Fazil has guided the nation to glory at numerous occasions, his latest victory being the Asian Rugby Championship which was recently concluded in Phillipines.

Donning the Kandy jersey for over a decade, Fazil Marija will lead the side this upcoming season for the second occasion. The earlier instance he captained was in the year 2010 where he led Kandy SC to a successful club championship title. Playing lead role in Kandy Sports Club’s success over the past years from the early 2000’s Fazil will be hoping to continue his predecessor Sean Wijesinghe excellence and retain the league title in the Kandyan hills for another successive year.

Former national skipper and Kandy Sports Club cap Sean Wijesinghe will contribute in to the Kandy Sports Club as assistant coach and Johanne Taylor will continue office as Head Coach for the team. Kandy Sports Club will have a facelift this season with fresh faces coming into the side and will possibly pose a huge threat in the upcoming league championship
