Eshani Kaushalya in ICC World XI

174

Sri Lanka’s aggressive all-rounder Eshani Kaushalya has been named for the ICC Women’s World Cup India 2013 Team of the Tournament. The ICC team was announced last Sunday (17), just after the finals of the competition West Indies and Australia in Bombay.

Eshani Kaushalya, known for the sight of that stocky, broad-shouldered all-rounder smashing sixes, had a good tournament and was chosen to bat at number six. She scored half-centuries against India and England in the games that Sri Lanka won and in the playoff game against South Africa she smashed 43.

Player of the Tournament, New Zealand’s Suzie Bates has been named as captain of the ICC Women’s World XI.

Chosen by a select group of experts* the team was aimed at being suited for Indian conditions on the basis of the performances in the tournament only. Statistics were used but were not the sole basis for selections.

The side features not only players from Australia and West Indies, but also sees four England players, one New Zealander and one Sri Lankan in the side.
