The second unofficial Test between Sri Lanka ‘A’ and the England Lions commenced today (7th February), at Galle International Cricket Stadium.
Sri Lanka ‘A’ Skipper Nipun Dhananjaya won the toss and had no hesitation to bat first on the batting-friendly Galle surface.
The hosts made 6 changes to their playing XI from previous game.
OUT – Oshada Fernando, Sahan Arachchige, Sadeera Samarawickrama, Dunith Wellalage, Amshi de Silva, Milan Rathnayake
IN – Lasith Croospulle, Kamindu Mendis, Lahiru Udara, Chamika Karunaratne, Vishwa Fernando, Praveen Jayawickrama
The right-handed duo Nishan Madushka and Lasith Croospulle opened the batting for Sri Lanka ‘A’, and they managed to put on a 59-run stand for the first wicket. Croospulle and Nuwanidu Fernando then joined at the crease and built another vital 83-run partnership for the 2nd wicket.
Around an hour after the lunch break, the rain interrupted the play when Sri Lanka ‘A’ were 150/3. The play resumed after a 45-minute break with Croospulle and Skipper Dhananjaya at the middle. The 24-year old Croospulle went on to score his 5th first-class century, as the hosts steadied the innings at 190/3 going into the tea break.
Unfortunately however, there was no further play post-tea session as rain interrupted the match once more and washed out the final session on day 1 completely. The century-maker Croospulle (122*) and Dhananjaya (14*) remained unbeaten at the crease at stumps on day one.
