Ellawala League Men’s and Women’s Water Polo Championship 2018 moved on to its fourth and final week as the defending Men’s and Women’s champions faced major threats to the title.

Royal stake claim for Ellawala Water Polo title

The one and only annual Water Polo League in Sri Lanka..

2017 Men’s champions, Royal College ‘A’ team are being pushed to the limit at this year’s Water Polo League, with one more week of competition left. In similar fashion, defending champs in the Women’s category Visakha Vidyalaya will face the wrath of last years’ runners-up.

Moving on to its 4th and final week, the Royal College Union Aquatic Club tops the Men’s group with 14 points to their name. With 7 wins and just 1 loss, they have a 2-point lead over their juniors, Royal ‘A’, who trail in second place with 12 points.

Sri Lanka Air Force, Army ‘A’ and SSC are tied at third place with 8 points apiece. SLAF are edging out the Army clan with 4 wins and 2 losses. Army ‘A’ has 4 wins and 3 losses while SSC has 4 wins and 4 losses and are struggling to keep up.

Visakha Vidyalaya trail by 1 point going in to the final stages, having won 2 of the 4 matches concluded. SSC remain unbeaten on top of the table with 6 points and 3/3 wins. Ladies’ College, tied with Visakha with a total of 5 points stand with a major opportunity, having played only 3 matches with 2 wins and 1 draw under their belts.

With both Visakha and Royal trailing in second place, it will be an interesting final week at the Air Force Swimming Complex. Will the two teams retain their titles for one more year, or will the underdogs steal the show?
