Royal, Wesley, St. Sylvester’s & St. Servatius finished the month of June on a high note securing victories at the Singer Schools U17 Division (A) matches.

Royal College, Colombo vs Maris Stella College, Negambo

The top two team of the Singer Schools U17 Division (A) group D segment Royal College, Colombo faced Maris Stella College, Negambo at Maris Stella grounds yesterday. The home team won the toss and invited the visitors to bat first. The boys from Reid Avenue putting up a huge total on the scoreboard by scoring 257 runs for the loss of 9 wickets in 50 overs. Kamil Mishara the highest scorer for Royal scored 70 runs followed by Isiwara Disanayake’s 47 runs. Deshan Silva was the pick of the bowlers when he chipped 3 wickets for 56 runs.

It was not easy for the Maristonians to chase this target and they were bowled out for 186 runs in 39.4 overs. Amanatha Perera scored 46 runs but it was not enough to complete the target. Once again Kamil Mishara showed top all round performances by taking 4 wickets for 21 runs. Royal won by 71 runs.

Wesley College came out with another fighting performance against De Mazenod College, Kadana. The home team boys from Walikada won the toss and opted to bat first in a 50 over match but could only score 111 runs all out in 33.1 overs. Mustee Mysan scored 55 runs for Wesley and Revin Fernando picked 4 wickets for 14 runs.

Denuwan Mendis and Sidath Darmasiriwardana picked 5 wickets for 28 runs and 4 wickets for 33 runs respectively. It wasn’t easy for the Mazenod boys to chase this total down ending up bowled out for 69 runs in 13.3 overs. Wesley won by 42 runs.

St. Sylvester’s won their group H match against St. Mary’s by 14 runs. Host Mary’s boys after winning the toss invited the visitors St. Sylvester’s to bat first and they made 165 runs for the loss of 9 wickets in 50 overs. Charith Rajaguru and Nishantha Jayawardena scored 35 runs and 31 runs not out respectively while Achintha Wickramasinghe picked 3 wickets for 29 runs.

St. Mary’s came up till the last over but couldn’t complete the target and were bowled out for 151 runs in 49.2 overs. P Wanasinghe contributed a half century with the bat for St. Mary’s with 52 runs. Naveen Bandara was the pick of the bowlers when he took 3 wickets for 17 runs. St. Sylvester’s won by 14 runs.

St. Servatius College, Matara vs Debarawewa National School, Debarawewa.

It was a thrilling match in group J played at Matara Uyanwaththa grounds yesterday when the home town boys came out with a win by only 2 runs. The lads from Debarawewa won the toss and invited the home boys to bat first and bowled them out for 141 runs in 48.2 overs. Bimsara Kavindu scored 29 runs which was the highest score for Servatius while Sulekshana and Wijenayake shared 7 wickets between them 4 for 29 and 3 for 25 in order.

Chasing the target the visitors came so close to the target but fell short by 2 runs at the end of 36.2 overs when they were bowled out for 139 runs. Naveen and Pasan demolished the batting line up by taking 5 wickets for 34 runs and 4 wickets for 26 runs respectively. Once again the only performer for Debarawewa Sulekshana scored 49 runs but not enough to be in the winning team. St. Servatius won by 2 runs.
