Draw looms large at SSC

Rain played the spoils- sport as another draw is looming large at SSC in the 51st Battle of the Brothers between Thurstan College and Isipathana College.

Only 55 overs were possible as the rain gods showered upon the SSC grounds around 3.30pm. Earlier, Isipathana skipper Kaminga Perera won the toss and elected to field on a lively surface at Mecca of Sri Lankan cricket. Thurstan’s best performer of the season Minhaj Jaleel who scored over 1000 runs at the recently concluded two day league championship got his alma-mater to a flying start as he made 61 runs in 60 balls with 6 exquisite fours and 2 towering sixes. Minhaj’s opening partner Sajith could not score more than 14 as he was dismissed off Kelum Bastianz bowling.

Two down batsman Thimira Jayasinghe was in great shape as he mustered 56 runs in 93 balls and he was involved in a 72 runs partnership with his skipper Kavindu Kulasekara for the 4th wicket. Thimira and Kavindu maneuvered the ball to all parts of the ground as the Isipathana spinners failed to contain both the batsman. Kavindu Kulasekara was unbeaten on 47 runs when the play was stopped due to rain. Left arm spinner Chameera Dissanayake took 2 wickets for the Isipathana College.

Play will continue tomorrow at 9.30am.
