Royal College and Bishop’s College Dominate at the 50th All Island MILO Schools Swimming and Diving Championship.
The 50th All Island MILO Schools Swimming and Diving Championship, conducted by the Sri Lanka Schools Aquatic Association and sponsored by Nestlé Lanka Ltd. for the 31st consecutive year, concluded successfully from June 17 to 22 at the Sugathadasa Indoor Stadium Swimming Complex. The diving powerhouses from Colombo—Royal College and Bishop’s College—stamped their class with dominant performances to clinch the Boys’ and Girls’ Team Championships, respectively.
During the six-day championship, diving events were held across the Under-14, Under-16, Under-18, and Under-20 age categories for both boys and girls. While diving remains a sport mostly concentrated around Colombo, the skill, grit, and determination displayed by the participating schoolgirls and boys were nothing short of commendable.
In the Boys’ Overall Team Championship, Royal College emerged as undisputed champions, securing a mammoth 184 points. They left St. Thomas’ College, Mt. Lavinia far behind in second place with 65 points, a staggering lead of 119 points. Meanwhile, the rising talents from Colombo International School claimed third place with a hard-earned 30 points.
In the Girls’ Overall Team Championship, Bishop’s College once again sealed their dominance, accumulating 147 points. The determined divers from St. Bridget’s Convent gave a strong fight but managed 78 points, finishing as runners-up. The battle for third place was tight between Visakha Vidyalaya and Buddhist Ladies’ College, and in the end, with both teams scoring 25 points, they were declared joint 3rd place winners.
The Prime Minister, Dr. Harini Amarasuriya—a proud alumna of championship-winning Bishop’s College—graced the awards ceremony as the chief guest. Also in attendance were Maduka Dasaman Fernando, President of the Sri Lanka Schools Aquatic Sports Association, and representatives from Nestlé Lanka Ltd., led by CEO Bernhard Stefan, along with other distinguished guests.
