The Munchee National Volleyball Championship District Novices of 2016 started off on the 16th of October and finished in the first week of November.

Men’s Novices

The tournament kick started with the men’s teams taking centre stage at the Maharagama Neelmmahara stadium with the Sri Lankan Army team and Biyagama Ocean Lanka team, in which the Sri Lankan Army team obtained the title of district champions for the Colombo District.

The Kalutara District finals commenced with Lucky Six sports club and Wasana Baker sports club, where the former triumphed in this encounter at the Govinna Wasana sports grounds.

Furthermore, another final match that took place concurrently at the Gampaha Heyyanthuduwa sports grounds saw the Sri Lankan Air Force pitted against the Sri Lankan Army team in which the latter consequently won.

Similarly, the Matale District finals saw the Walgamwewa Saints sports club triumph over Kashyapa Lion Rock sports club as well.

Women’s Novices

The Colombo District finals saw the triumph of the Siyambalagoda Kapila sports club against Pannipitiya Dharmapala Maha Vidyalaya.

Elsewhere, in the Kalutara District, Agamathi Girls sports club achieved the title of champions in the district after an enthralling encounter against Pothupitiya Lucky Six Girls sports club.

It was Pallepola Rusigama Vidyalaya that came out on top in the Matale District finals, against Madawala Dweethika College. The Galle District also saw action in the finals, in the form of Seenigama Wimalbuddhi sports club and Gonipinuwala Vougtax Garment sports team, in which the latter became champs, while the former became runner up.
