Dineth Thimodya’s fine performance with the bat helps St Peters to claim vital point

Since the weather has cleared away school cricket has also begun to progress. This time it was St. Peter’s against De Mazenod which was played at St. Peter’s College grounds. 

Toss was on by the boys from Kadana who put the home team to bat first. Peterites were under some pressure after pure batting performances in the last couple of matches. St. Peter’s Got away to flying start with our star of the match Dineth Thimodya scoring his first half century of the season and he went on to score 79 runs. He was helped by Sachin Dalpathadu who scored a handy 38 runs helping the Peterites to score a solid first innings score of 250 in 62.1 overs. Akash Senaratne of De Mazenod College bagged six wickets for 67 runs and Rukshan Fernando getting 3 wickets for 63 runs. 

De Mazenod came on to bat but could never get going. They kept losing wickets at regular intervals. Thanks To Malshan Silva’s 79 they reached 189 before they were bundled out by the strong peterite bowling line up. For St. Peter’s College Thaneesha Weerakkody took five wickets for 49 runs and right arm medium pace bowler Randel Senevirathne getting two wickets for 32 runs. 

St. Peter’s College came onto bat with a 61 run lead. The pick of the match left handed opening batsmen Dineth Thimodya scored his 1st century of the season and went on score 140 runs in a very quick succession. Didulana Mendis pinched in with 36 runs and Sachin Dalpathadu was yet again on the scorecard with scoring 32 runs helping his team to reach 228 for the loss of 5 wickets at the close of play. Rukshan Fernando was yet again amongst the wickets with taking two wickets 72 runs 

Match ended with St. Peter’s College claiming their second 1st innings win of the season.
