Dimuth Karunaratne handed a whopping fine by SLC

A US $7000 fine has been imposed on national cricketer Dimuth Karunaratne by Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) for violating the player code of conduct after his drunk driving incident.

Karunaratne was involved in an accident while returning home from a function on Sunday early morning and was granted bail after appearing before the Courts yesterday.

Karunaratne also issued an apology on his social media accounts, after he was arrested in the early hours on the 31st of March.

Sri Lanka Cricket, in a media release to the public earlier, stated that they “will also follow the due process as per his ‘Player Contractual Obligation’ with the organization and conduct an inquiry in order to take necessary action” before the decision of a $7500 fine, was imposed on Tuesday.

Meanwhile Karunaratne will lead team Dambulla in the Super Provincial Tournament that is set to begin on the 4th of April, in a bid to secure a spot in the team that travels to England for the World Cup in May.
