Karunaratne to represent Hampshire

Sri Lanka Test opener Dimuth Karunaratne has reportedly signed a deal with Hampshire County Cricket Club to play in the Specsavers County Championship and part of Royal London One-Day Cup this season according to The Island.

Karunaratne had a fantastic 2018 with the bat as he put together 743 runs at an average of 46. He was also the only Sri Lankan player to be selected in ICC’s Test Team of the Year 2018.

The Sri Lankan Vice- Captain will be the first player to play the County Championship- Division 01 tournament after the island’s most beloved wicket keeper batsman Kumar Sangakkara represented Surrey in 2017. Seekkuge Prasanna also featured in the division 2 tournament of the championship last year.

2018 Royal London One-Day Champions, Hampshire CCC will welcome the services of Karunaratne while having other overseas players in the likes of Rilee Russouw (SA), Kyle Abbott (SA), Fidel Edwards (WI) and Brad Wheel (Sco) in their squad.

The first match of the county season is scheduled to commence on April 5th and the one-day matches will start on the 17th, of the same month.
