Dialog Schools Rugby League - Week 06

The Dialog Schools Rugby League heads into the Super Round today (4th June 2026). With plenty at stake across all three segments, let’s take a closer look at what’s in store this week.

Plate Segment

St. Joseph’s College vs S. Thomas’ College

The super round gets underway with a traditional fixture as the Josephians host the Thomians for the Lady Jayatilleke Shield. Both teams have some heavy hitters up front making this one an interesting battle and one of the closer games to call. Both teams will also have plenty to prove as they would’ve fancied a Cup Segment berth at the start of the season. Expect a tight game but you feel the Thomians go in as favourites owing to more individual quality in the backs.

Prediction – S. Thomas’ College win

St. Anthony’s College vs Thurstan College

There will be relief in both camps considering they’ve ensured safety by avoiding the Bowl Segment, perhaps a bit of disappointment in the Thurstanite camp as well as they were in contention for a place in the Cup segment until the final week. Should be another even contest on paper, but form and home advantage give the Eagles the favourites tag.

Prediction – St. Anthony’s College win

Sri Sumangala College vs Ananda College

Another interesting clash as two teams with very contrasting styles of play lock horns in Pallekele. The Maroons will rely heavily on their set pieces while a more open game will favour Sri Sumangala. Once again, home advantage will put the favourites tag on Sri Sumangala College as this will be Ananda’s first time out of Colombo this season.

Prediction – Sri Sumangala College win

Bowl Segment

Prince of Wales College vs D.S Senanayake College

Nothing seems to have gone the way of the Dons this season. Much was expected of them after they clinched the Plate Championship last time out. However they have failed to live up to expectation and now find themselves fighting for survival in the top flight. They will no doubt come into the Bowl Segment as one of the favourites and expect them to take maximum points against the Cambrians who are still struggling to adapt.

Prediction – D.S Senanayake College win

Mahanama College vs Kingswood College

Another slight mismatch in the Bowl Segment. Kingswood College have been on a steady rise and have been on the wrong side of a couple of extremely close games and will consider themselves slightly unlucky to be in the Bowl Segment. Mahanama on the other hand come in off the back of some heavy defeats in the first round however have home advantage on their side

Prediction- Kingswood College win

Lumbini College vs Science College

Arguably the closest game in the Bowl Segment this week between two teams who traditionally love to run the ball. However, Science College’s forward play has been a breath of fresh air this season, especially their work off the lineout. And one expects that extra impetus up front to make the difference in this game.

Prediction – Science College win

Cup Segment

Isipathana College vs Royal College

We kick off the Cup Segment with a cracker as Isipathana College host the Royalists for the Major Milroy Fernando Memorial Trophy. Apart from the silverware, this will be a crucial game for both sides as they carry just two points between them into the super round and will need a win here to stay alive. The forwards battle will be crucial in deciding which way this game goes. The game sits on a knife edge, but home advantage gives the Green Machine a very slight edge

Prediction – Isipathana College win

St. Peter’s College vs Zahira College

Zahira College have played out of their skin to make it into the Cup Segment. Whether they’ll be able to maintain that intensity will be the question on everyone’s minds. The Peterites on the other hand managed to pull a rabbit out of the hat against Wesley College but will need to tighten up before their Cup Segment kicks off. The set pieces in particular have been a major concern and is something the Zahirians will want to exploit. The Bamba Brigade will need their forwards to step up and lay the foundation to unleash their potential backline.

Prediction – St. Peter’s College win

Wesley College vs Trinity College

Wesley College are yet to hit their groove this season, despite winning four games in the first round they haven’t been without some shaky moments. Trinity College on the other hand, have been a class apart in the first round and come into this game as firm favourites. However, you can never count out the Double Blues.

Prediction – Trinity College win
