S. Thomas' vs Dharmaraja

S. Thomas’ College continued their winning streak in the Dialog Schools Rugby League 2025 with a commanding 48–5 victory over Dharmaraja College at the Nittawela Stadium.

Udan Bulathsinghalage kicked off the game, and Dharmaraja, receiving the ball in their own half, wasted no time in clearing it into touch. However, the kick lacked distance, allowing S. Thomas’ to gain early momentum with a lineout inside the 50-meter mark.

The powerful Thomian forwards began to pile pressure on the Dharmaraja defense. Although the Rajans managed to turn over possession inside their own 22, their clearance kick landed in the hands of Akith Cooray, who launched a brilliant run that brought play back into Dharmaraja’s 22. From there onwards, the Thomian forwards continued their charge, making ground through pods before spreading the ball wide. Flanker Jaison Gnanadas went over the line to score the opening try in the 8th minute. The conversion, however, was unsuccessful. (DCK 00-05 STC)

It didn’t take long for S. Thomas’ to double their lead. Udan Bulathsinghalage, spotting a gap, stepped past defenders and entered the Rajans’ 22. Maintaining momentum, it was Udan himself who finished the move with the second try of the match. The conversion attempt once again missed the mark. (DCK 00-10 STC)

Minutes later, Avishka Perera produced a sensational 50-meter run, slicing through the defense to score under the posts. This time, Udan made no mistake with the conversion, adding the full 7 points. (DCK 00-17 STC)

Desperate to respond, Dharmaraja created a few opportunities, but costly knock-ons at crucial moments let them down.

Things went from bad to worse for the Rajans when they conceded a penalty inside their own 22. S. Thomas’ opted for a scrum, and from that move, Saneshka Liyanagunawardana crossed the line to score their fourth and bonus-point try. The conversion was once again unsuccessful. (DCK 00-22 STC)

With just three minutes left in the first half, Dharmaraja appeared to be building a promising attack, but a sloppy pass was intercepted by Avishka Perera, who ran from his own 40-meter line to score another try for the visitors. This time, Udan’s conversion was on target. (DCK 00-29 STC)

S. Thomas’ weren’t done yet. They soon added a sixth try through their loosehead prop Vishwa Ariyawansa. Fatigue was clearly setting in for the Rajans. However, Udan’s conversion attempt bounced off the upright and landed just in front, going unconverted. (DCK 00-34 STC)

Having secured the bonus point and a healthy lead, the Thomians brought on their bench in the second half. This slightly slowed the tempo of their game, but they still managed to score twice more.

The first of the second-half tries came from a brilliant touch-finder by Udan, giving the Thomians a lineout deep in Rajans’ territory. A driving maul was formed, and Eyan Pereira was the one to finish it off. Zaydaan Akbar, who took over kicking duties, slotted the conversion beautifully. (DCK 00-41 STC)

Udan then delivered another pinpoint kick to just outside the 22-meter line. From the lineout, the Thomians once again formed a maul, broke off to the left flank, and winger Zaydaan Akbar finished the move by diving over the line. He also successfully converted his own try. (DCK 00-48 STC)

Dharmaraja, eager to score a consolation try, finally managed to break through in the 68th minute, with Vidun Saparamadu going over. The conversion was unsuccessful. (DCK 05-48 STC)

With this win, S. Thomas’ College extend their unbeaten run to four games in the 2025 Dialog Schools Rugby League, while Dharmaraja College remain winless this season.
