For the 9th consecutive time, the Sri Lanka Volleyball Association has organized the Dialog President’s Golden Trophy Volleyball Tournament powered by Dialog Axiata PLC. The tournament started off at the Youth Services ground in Kilinochchi on the 1st of July 2014.
This tournament is of 3 stages and it will be held in Divisional, Zonal, District and National levels. Inaugural matches were held in Kilinochchi, Vavuniya, Jaffna and Mulativ where 48 teams took part in both men’s and women’s categories.
President of the Sri Lanka Volleyball Association, Honorable Minister of Foreign Employment Promotion & Welfare Mr.Dilan Perera, Vice President of Sri Lanka Volleyball Association Mr.Bandara Herath, Chairman of National Youth Services Council Mr. Lalith Piyum Perera and Head of Brand and Media Dialog Axiata PLC Mr.Harsha Samaranayake were the Chief Guests of the opening ceremony.
Boralesgamuwa Balares sports Club became the Champions of Men’s category in the last year’s President’s Golden Trophy tournament whereas the runners up were Naththandiya United Sports Club. The runners up of Men’s category became Champions in the Women’s category while Siyambalagoda Kapila Sports Club became the runners up. The Sri Lanka Volleyball Association has planned to hold the Zonal level competitions for the other districts on the weekends of July and August 2014.
