Dialog Club Rugby to Kick-off Mid November

ThePapare.com has reliably learnt that the Dialog Inter Club Rugby League will be commencing mid-November.

The domestic rugby league took a hiatus after the Sri Lanka Rugby Football Union (SLRFU) decided to reschedule the tournament to be played in November to March and avoid clashing with the international and schools’ rugby calendar.

This year’s league will see the inclusion of a tenth team to the top most league in the country with Hambantota Sharks debuting in the 2013 season. The Hambantota Sharks are likely to be based out of the southern district and would be the second team after the Upcountry Lions (Nawalapitiya) to have games beyond the traditional rugby bases of Colombo and Kandy.

The league will continue to have round robin first round where all teams will play each other before the league is split into two to determine the Cup and Plate winners. The first round will take place between November and February.

Last year Havelock’s SC won the Dialog Club Rugby League, bringing to a halt a decade of dominance by Kandy SC.

Teams – Havelocks SC, Kandy SC, SL Navy SC, Upcountry Lions, SL Army SC, SL Police SC, SL Air Force, CR&FC, CH&FC, Hambantota Sharks
