The Mercantile Tennis Tournament which was conducted at the Sri Lanka Tennis Association came to a close on the 16th of December.
This year’s tournament featured the likes of the Sri Lankan Tennis great Arjun Fernando as well as the past women’s singles and doubles nationals champion Thiyumi Abeysinghe.
Participants from a total of 27 companies such as DFCC, Dialog, HSBC, Aitken Spence and Nations Trust bank took part in this year’s tournament in an attempt to bring glory to their respective institutions.
Hamza Hussein who represented Idea Hub put on a stunning display of Tennis in order to win the all important Men’s Division 1 title. He defeated the top seed Ashan Dep in the semi finals and went on to defeat his team mate from Idea Hub A. Ratnakumar with a scoreline of 6-3 6-2.
The women’s segment of the tournament was dominated by the talented and experienced Thiyumi Abeysinghe. She beat Nirmala Fernando in straight sets to win the women’s singles title and she partnered Druvinka Moraes to win the women’s doubles title. She went onto to win her third title of the tournament when she partnered Guyanga Weerasekera to clinch the Mixed Doubles Title.

DFCC emerged as the overall champions with a total point haul of 108. Dialog secured second place with a total of 45 points and Ernst & Young came third with 44 points.
