Deandra Dottin and Stafanie Taylor excels in series-leveling victory

West Indies women defeated Sri Lanka women by 8 wickets as Deandra Dottin and Stafanie Taylor inspired the visitors in the 2nd T20 match at R. Premadasa Stadium on Monday.

 

Sri Lanka won the 1st T20 few days back and with this win, the series is currently leveled with one win to both teams. The deciding game will be played tomorrow (26th May). Sri Lanka skipper won the toss and elected to bat first on a hot and humid morning. 

The hosts lost Yashoda Mendis early on when she was stumped off Stefanie Taylor’s bowling. Chamari Atapattu stroked 5 elegant boundaries as she set the tone of the innings alongside Dilani Manodara and they added 47 runs for the 2nd wicket. Chamari and Dilani were both dismissed in quick succession for 27 and 30 respectively. 

Shashikala Siriwardene (26) and Nipuni Hansika (21) batted positively for the Lady Lions while Eshani Kaushalya’s 8-ball 13 helped Sri Lanka women to post 124 for 5 at the end of 20 overs. Taylor captured most wickets with 2 scalps.

Chasing 125 runs to level the series, Udeshika Prabodhani clean bowled Hayley Matthews early on for 7 but the match-winning partnership courtesy Stafanie Taylor and Deandra Dottin. Both right-handed batswomen shared 101 runs between them in 88 deliveries. Taylor remained unbeaten on 59 in 49 balls with 8 fours while Dottin made 7 boundaries in her 45-ball 51. The visitors reached the target with 7 balls to spare and 8 wickets remaining.
