Some brilliant rugby been played in the lower category in week three.  CWW Kannangara College was the most impressive out of all dominating the league so far in terms of number of points.

Division 1 segment 1B

Thurstan College escapes with the battle against Piliyandala MMV. 34 – 21 was the score at the end of 80 minutes. This is the first win for the Thurstanites as they lost to St. Sylvesters and Prince of Wales College in the previous two weeks.

Prince of Wales College (POW) the other top runner in segment 1B scored 58 points to 17 vs Lalith Athulathmudali College (LAC). POW unbeaten so far will have a crucial match in the fourth week against CWW Kannangara and LAC  have made a great appearance thus far in this segment as they beat Sylvester’s in the previous week.

With 3 out of 3 wins and an average of 11 tries per match CWW Kannangara College ran riot against St. Sylvester’s 68 – 00 to top the segment 1B.  CWW have shown very good consistency and they look favorites to engrave history and play in the top division next year. However, it is still early days and there is a long way to go in the season.

Division 1 segment 2B

Ananda College looks very strong in segment 2B and  remain unbeaten so far winning against Lumbini College 46 – 29 in week 3. It will be interesting to see Ananda playing second round matches with the top teams in the same division but different segments.

St. Benedicts secured their first win in the league beating Nalanda College 20 points to 05 at the match played in Kotahena. This win will surely give the Bens some confidence for the coming matches whilst Nalanda College showed inconsistency with their performance.

St. Johns vs Mahanama match is to be played on 22nd April at Science College Grounds.
