Following the directive issued by the Ministry of Education, the Dialog Schools Rugby League 2020 has been postponed indefinitely taking into consideration the threat of an outbreak of the Corona virus in the country.

Earlier, the Minister of Education Dullas Alahapperuma ordered all schools in the country to be closed owing to the current situation until the 20th of April. However as of yesterday, the call from the tournament organizers was to continue the games for this week.

With the situation gradually escalating, a call was taken by the Sri Lanka Schools Rugby Football Association (SLSRFA) to halt the league for an indefinite period.

Speaking to ThePapare, Nirodha Wijerama Secretary of the SLSRFA added that the call was taken following a discussion held this morning.

“The directive came from the ministry after the discussions we had this morning to hold the league with the decision to close down schools” he added.

The games scheduled for today, including the Trinity v St. Anthony’s game scheduled for this evening (13th) will not take place.

With no potential schedule in sight, the possibility of the league resuming is still to be considered and according to the SLSRFA the decision will come once everything comes to normalcy.

*Update – The Trinity College vs St. Anthony’s College game will proceed to be played behind closed doors
