The 22 member contingent from the Colombo Rowing Club will leave for Chennai on Thursday the 27th of July 2023 to take part in the 82nd Madras Colombo Regatta at the Madras Boat Club.
The Madras-Colombo Regatta is the annual rowing encounter between the Colombo Rowing Club and Madras Boat Club. It has been held since 1898. The premier event, the Men’s Boat Race is the oldest inter-club race between any two countries and the second oldest inter-club boat race in the world, second only to the Oxford-Cambridge Boat Race. Winners of the men’s regatta are awarded the Deepam Trophy, while the overall winners of the women’s regatta are awarded the Adyar Trophy.

In 2022, The Indian CEO Forum along with the Lanka IOC and Powertech Cement  sponsored the Regatta in Colombo where we witnessed a  large gathering of Indian Expats who  attended both the traditional cocktails as well as  the Regatta.

While Colombo won the Deepam Trophy  that was awarded to the men’s crew , Madras won the  Adayar trophy for the Ladies Crew in 2022. Both teams have been training very hard this season with the hope of winning both trophies.

The Regatta is due to be held on Saturday the 29th of July 2023 in Chennai, India.
