Chaminda Vaas shortlisted for a coaching role in Bangladesh

Former Sri Lanka fast-bowler Chaminda Vaas has been shortlisted for the position of bowling coach in the Bangladesh national team.

Akram Khan, BCB’s cricket operations committee chairman has said that the current bowling coach, Heath Streak has applied to the BCCI for a coaching job in India’s National Cricket Academy as his contract is supposed to expire at the end of May.

“We want a settled coaching staff and that’s why we wanted to retain Streak. But if he wants to go, we won’t stop him and we will look for a better option.” Khan said to the Dhaka Tribune.

“So far there are few names like Champaka Ramanayaka, Aaqib Javed, Chaminda Vaas and Venkatesh Prasad and few others.” Khan further stated.

Ramanayake, who used to be Bangladesh’s bowling coach is currently the Sri Lanka bowling coach and he is unlikely to give up the role while Vaas has previously worked with Sri Lanka, New Zealand and Ireland.  He has taken a total of 755 wickets in his 111 Tests and 322 ODIs.

Meanwhile, Bangladesh head coach, Chandika Hathurusinghe has agreed to extend his term and is also likely to get a salary hike. Sri Lankan trainer Mario Villavarayan is also willing to extend his contract with the BCB.
