Former Sri Lanka skipper Chamara Kapugedara has called time on his playing career with the announcement of his retirement from all forms of cricket, ThePapare learns.

In his international career which has spanned more than 11 years, Kapugedara has played 163 matches across all three formats including 8 Tests, scoring more than a 2500 runs.

The 32-year-old from Kandy burst onto the scene from Dharmaraja College with a magnificent record as a schoolboy cricketer and debuted for Sri Lanka national team in Perth vs Australia in 2006 as a 19-years old.

Naturally aggressive, and capable of clearing the boundary, Kapugedara unfortunately failed to nail a place in Sri Lanka team getting in and out of the team regularly between 2006-2012. Right hander compiled 13 half centuries in his career which is an understatement for his raw ability.

One of his best moment in national colors came in 2010 World T20 when he dispatched Ashish Nehra for a last ball six to knock India out of the competition. Kapugedara also found himself as the stand-in captain of Sri Lanka team in an ODI in 2017 at Pallekele vs India as the cover for Upul Tharanga.
