CCC on the way to outright

The CCC put themselves in contention for an outright victory with another splendid bowling performance on the third day of their Sri Lanka Cricket inter club Premier League Super Eight match against Sri Lanka Ports Authority CC which continued at the NCC ground in Maitland Place today.

CCC v Ports Authority

Ports Authority CC who were trailing by 87 runs on the first innings managed to score only 245 runs in their second innings with the spin trio of Lakshan Rangika, Dinuka Hettiarachchi and Madhuka Liyanapathiranage causing the damage.

The Sri Lanka Ports Authority CC batsmen never looked like settling down to play a long innings even though five of their top order players managed to reach the 30’s before getting out carelessly.

Earlier the CCC further extended their first innings lead as they went on to pile up a formidable 356 runs aided by a magnificent century from Chamara Silva and two good fifties from Lasith Abeyratne and Maduka Liyanapathiranage.

NCC v SSC

Meanwhile the NCC look set to pile up a massive first innings total after they produced another superb batting performance on the third day of their Sri Lanka Cricket inter club Premier League tournament match against the arch rivals SSC which continued at Panagoda today.

The NCC chasing their opponent’s first innings total of 288 runs finished the day with an impressive 368 for the loss of just one wicket with skipper Upul Tharanga stroking an unbeaten 164 from 223 deliveries inclusive of one six and 19 boundaries.

He has already put on a magnificent 198 runs for the unfinished second wicket along with Pawan Wickremasinghe who remained unbeaten on 86 from 168 deliveries and studded with eleven boundaries.

Tamil Union v Army

Tamil Union produced an excellent bowling performance to snatch a close first innings lead over Sri Lanka Army Sports Club in their Sri Lanka Cricket inter club Premier League Super Eight match which continued at Katunayake today.

Army SC after having bowled out their opponents for 276 runs, failed to capitalize on that and managed to score only a modest 226 runs with opener Mohamed Feshal stroking a top score of 58 with seven boundaries.

Dynamic left arm spinner Chamikara Edirisinghe turned out to be the destroyer as he continued to torment the Army SC batsmen with a superb six wicket haul from 29 overs.

The Tamil Union then went on to further extend their overall lead with their openers Pabasara Waduge and Manoj Sarathchandra putting on 114 runs without been separated with both completing unbeaten half centuries.

Ragama CC v Moors   

Meanwhile Ragama CC were well poised to take first innings honours over Moors SC after a good all round performance on the third day of their Sri Lanka Cricket inter club Premier League Super Eight match which continued at the Surrey ground in Maggona today.

After having bowled out their opponents for 268 runs Ragama CC raced to 151 for three wickets through some excellent batting from their top order comprising of opener Michael van Dort, Ian Daniel and skipper Sameera de Zoysa.

In fact Van Dort fell short by three runs from a half century having hoisted two sixes and struck half a dozen of boundaries while Daniel remained unbeaten on 41 which was studded with seven boundaries.

Earlier Ragama CC produced an inspired bowling performance to dismiss their opponents for 268 runs while claiming the last five Moors SC wickets for the addition of just 47 runs.

The two spinners Sajeewa Weerakoon and Malinga Bandara were able to turn the game in their favour as they produced some fantastic bowling and to share seven wickets between them.

Moors SC who were well placed at 210 for five wickets overnight failed to consolidate their position and collapsed sensationally after the dismissal of their top scorer Kaushalya Gajasinghe.
