Casual Line SC and Koswadiya Wijaya SC are the finalists in the Open Women’s category of the Dialog President’s Gold Cup Volleyball Tournament scheduled to be held tomorrow (07). They managed to defeat Colombo Kapila SC and Randawana Golden Birds SC respectively in the semi-finals.

The girls from Casual Line SC won over Kapila SC by 3:0 sets (25-18, 25-19, 25-16) and Wijaya SC defeated Golden Birds SC by 3:2 sets.

Koswadiya Wijaya SC

Readying for their 7th consecutive title, no team has managed to overcome Wijaya SC so far for 6 years where they have been the undisputed champions from 2010-2015.

Key Players

Dinesha Prasadini, crowned as the best women’s attacking player in the recently concluded Munchee National Volleyball Tournament, will be leading Wijaya SC. She is also the captain of the Air Force women’s team as well as a player in the national squad.

Iresha Udayangani and Chathurika Ranasinghe are two of the most renowned players in the local women’s volleyball arena. Chathurika was named the overall best women’s player in the Munchee National Volleyball Tournament.

Umila Hemanthi is a former national cap and her experience will be quite valuable to the team.

Ruwani Thaksala is a junior national representative.

That match was an outdoor match but since the final will be held indoors the result would be different from the previous. Since Umila has joined us now we are even more stronger as a team. Casual Line SC

A dominant force in the mercantile sports arena, they managed to reach the final of the Munchee National Volleyball Tournament which was held a couple of weeks ago. Even though most players from that team are participating in the Under 22 category the results from the previous matches in this tournament show that their strength has not decreased at all. This is their maiden appearance in the Dialog President’s Cup Volleyball Tournament.

Key Players

Renuka Nilmini, Prabodha Sandeepani, Ishanka Balasuriya and  Champa Kalyani are all players who represented the junior national squad. Renuka was named the best player of the amateur category in the Munchee National Volleyball Tournament.

Nisanika Sandamali won the award for the best setter in the 2016 mercantile tournament.

Sachini Nimanthika is a tall player specialized in blocking. Such a talented team will surely be quite a challenge for the opponents who looking to grab the title for the 7th time.

“This is the first time we reached the finals. We defeated Wijaya SC in the group stages but the game is unpredictable. We hope to win working together as a team. The team’s mentality is very good. Being a young team we hope to give a good fight and win the championship. I would specially like to thank Mr. Ruwan Keragala of MAS Holdings and our manager Mr. Chandana Wijesinghe.” were the thoughts of the captain Renuka Nilmini.
