Australia ‘A’ beat Sri Lanka ‘A’ by 7 wickets in the first 50-over game of the two-match series between the sides held today (08th June) at SSC Grounds in Colombo.

Australian skipper Alex Carey won the toss and invited the hosts to take the first lease of the wicket at SSC Grounds, Colombo.

The right-handed duo Oshada Fernando and Lasith Croospulle opened the innings for Sri Lanka but the latter lost his wicket in the very first over of the innings for just 2 runs.

Sri Lanka’s number three batter Kamindu Mendis then joined Fernando in the middle and built an 87-run partnership for the 2nd wicket. The skipper Dhananjaya De Silva and Sri Lanka cap Ashen Bandara also put a valuable 51-run stand for the 5th wicket as Sri Lanka ‘A’ posted a commanding total of 297/7 in the allotted 50 overs.

De Silva top-scored with a knock of 68 runs off 70 balls with 10 fours while the opening batter Fernando stroked 65 runs off 82 balls with 7 fours.

After posting a solid score on the board, Sri Lankans started well with the ball dismissing the Australian opening pair for 62 runs as the left-arm spinner Dunith Wellalage picked up both the wickets.

However, the visitors fought back nicely with the bat as number 3 batter Matt Renshaw and number 4 batter Cameron Green built a brilliant 121-run partnership for the 3rd wicket putting the Aussies on course to the victory.

Green and the skipper Alex Carey then built another century stand as Australia got home with a convincing win over the hosts. Green top-scored for the visitors with a magnificent century as he stroked unbeaten 119 runs off 111 balls with 9 fours and 3 sixes.
